She fiercely embraces 'Anti-Perfection' in all that she does, with her bold, get-out-there-and-do-it attitude.
She's warm, open, and funny, and real, raw and relatable.
A raver from 15, but tuning into the pirates from long before, Sam spent the early 90s in the London club scene before heading to the muddy fields of the free-party sound system raves.
In the mid 90s, when raving stopped working for her, Sam got on a plane to go and lose herself in Colombia.
A decade later Sam landed herself in 12 Step Recovery and remains clean and sober to this day.
Thinking raving was inseparable from the lifestyle, Sam gave up drink, drugs and dancing, with no idea how bad for her the latter would be.
Recovery led Sam to study an MSc in Applied Positive Psychology.
She researched courage, authenticity, nostalgia and play, by engaging in an intervention she called ‘Free Spirit Dance’.
She danced in the field opposite her house at 5.30am most days throughout lockdown and beyond, regardless of the weather or onlookers. Free Spirit Dance reconnected her back to the music she loved, the movement her body missed, and to the person she had lost. And then she noticed how lonely she was. That’s when Sam posted the post that change her life, and the lives of many women in her community.
2025 was a metamorphous year for Sam.
She turned 50, got herself on social media, learned to DJ, and documented her journey on Instagram.
The announcement that she was going to learn to DJ was met with ferocious trolling, which did her nothing but good.
It upped the algorithms, increased her followers, connected her to amazing people, and sent her motivation to prove the trolls wrong through the roof.
It also got her an offer to DJ on the mainstage at a festival to a crowd of 3000, and a radio interview with Uncle Dugs on RinseFM.
Without hesitation Sam said yes to everything, and LadyShift was born.
Within a year LadyShift...
formed GIRLZCAN2
created and promotes her regular Anti-Perfection Party
was interviewed by Uncle Dugs on his renowned RinseFM interview show (listen below)
had guest slots on EXTradio
has been interviewed numerous times on Regency Radio
has played at the same events as legends Terry Farley (Boy's Own) and Terry Jones (Mi-Soul Radio, Southport Weekender)
played mainstage to a crowd of 3000 at The Big Retreat Festival (and was re-booked for next year)
trained at London Sound Academy
started hosting a weekly live breakfast show on KaneFm called (of course) Anti-Perfection Show
